“Fried”-ay Desserts

Since today is Friday, it is only fitting to share two of my favorite fried desserts to make, Fried ice cream and Malasada mini bites. I learned how to make these delicious fried concoctions in my culinary classes a while back and I am excited to pass them on to you. I think that you will love them as much as I do because they are easy to make and many of the ingredients used can be found in your home, which means …saving money and possibly a trip to the store!

Being from Hawaii, one of my favorite local treats are malasadas. If you don’t know what IMG_9169.JPGmalasadas are, they are Portuguese donuts. It is simply made by frying dough and coating it with sugar.

Typically, malasadas aren’t bite sized but they are easier to share  with the family by making them as mini bites.

INGREDIENTS:

  • Pillsburry Dinner Rolls
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Sugar
  • Optional Topping: cinnamon
  • Optional Fillings: chocolate, custard, etc.

PREP:

  • Heat oil in pan or deep fryer.
  • Pour sugar in a baking pan or bowl (I mixed sugar and cinnamon to coat the malasadas) and set aside.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Cut dinner rolls into four pieces and roll them into ball shapes.
  • Place them in heated oil and fry them for a minute and a half on each side.
  • Take the malasada mini bites out of the oil, letting excess oil drip off, then place in the prepared sugar mixture.
  • Coat evenly and enjoy!
